Healthy Nutrition during Childhood
Healthy Nutrition during Childhood
The quality and quantity of food the child eats greatly affect its whole being, physically and mentally. Childhood is a stage in life where rapid growth and development takes place. Children should be given sufficient food to grow and build their body, to give them plenty of energy for play and to keep them away from infection.

How is good eating habit established in childhood?

Energy and Nutrients Needs
Children’ appetite begins to diminish around one year, consistent with the slowing of growth. Thereafter, children spontaneously vary their food intake to coincide with their growth potential patterns. They are demand more food during periods of rapid growth than during slow periods. However, steady growth during childhood implies gradually increasing needs of all nutrients.

Children should be given a balanced meal, which contains carbohydrates, protein, fats, vitamins, minerals and water.
